Glenda Clwyd has been acknowledged as one of the finest and most important harpists to come out of Wales. Her mastery of the harp and genuine love of the instrument, coupled with her natural talent and flair both as a virtuoso performer and a composer have defined a successful musical career across the globe, spanning nearly three decades.
Glenda is renowned for her performances as a soloist for private recitals, concerts and music festivals. Her versatile performance style is sought after to enhance corporate and charity events as well as society weddings and myriad other special occasions.
Her beautiful arrangements and renditions of music include upbeat jazz, blues, showstoppers, classics and the latest hits as well as more formal and relaxing selections of famous classical and Welsh pieces. Glenda is a natural entertainer and performer and regularly delights and amazes her audiences by being able to play requests from memory, from her vast repertoire.
Glenda was taught singing, the harp and the piano from the age of 10 and went on to study for a degree in Harp Performance at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama under the guidance of celebrated professor Ann Griffiths. She was an Ambassador for the college and won the prestigious Pernod prize for her achievements.
She also holds Licentiate of the Trinity College London (L.T.C.L) for performance. Glenda is able to perform all major harp concertos, chamber and solo harp works as well as orchestral harp parts on request.

Glenda has performed worldwide as well as at home in the UK; at such venues as The Royal Albert Hall, The Barbican, The Savoy, The Wales Millennium Centre and St David’s Hall, Cardiff.
Early in her career, she spent twelve months in the Middle East at the 5* Inter Continental Hotel in Bahrain, performing for the Bahraini Royal family and many high profile international guests. She then travelled the world as a concert soloist on a luxury cruise ship.
As a highly experienced and versatile musician, Glenda is asked to perform at high profile events across the UK which include product launches, charity evenings, gala dinners, fashion weeks, proms and award ceremonies. Her client portfolio includes Krug, Coutts, The Savoy Hotel, Oxford University, the Welsh Assembly Government, the British Tourist Authority and even ‘The World’ (a privately owned cruise liner).
During her career, the British Tourist Authority has engaged Glenda to travel to the U.S.A to play at Minneapolis St Paul, as an ambassador for Wales and The Welsh Tourist Board has appointed her to entertain visiting clients to promote the Welsh nation. Glenda has also toured the UK showcasing the music of Wales.
The Welsh Assembly Government has regularly employed Glenda’s talents in Award Ceremonies and for prestigious events. Glenda was the official harpist for the twinning ceremony with Stuttgart in Germany on behalf of Cardiff City Council.
Glenda recently performed a selection of Classical Music for a prestigious fundraising catwalk show at John Lewis for clients Coutts and has also appeared in concert as the soloist with many eminent Welsh choirs including the Male Voice Choirs of Treorchy, Dowlais, Pendyrus and Llanelli.
Glenda is the official harpist for many prestigious Welsh venues including De Courcey’s Manor in Pentyrch, Cardiff, the Miskin Manor Hotel in the Vale of Glamorgan, the Maes Manor Hotel in Blackwood, the Orangery at Margam Park and the Grove at Narberth. As a wedding harpist of distinction, Glenda is also asked to perform at weddings in churches, castles, hotels and prestigious venues throughout the UK and is the harpist of choice for wedding professionals across Wales, regularly playing for society weddings.
Glenda’s performances both at private and corporate events are highly acclaimed and she has twice, in 2011 and 2012, been the recipient of the ‘Best Entertainment in Wales’ award at the prestigious Welsh National Wedding Awards. She has also been shortlisted for the Best Entertainment Award for 2013 and 2014.
Glenda has created and supports the wonderful Beach Bus fundraiser which last year took 600 children, who had never seen the sea, to the beach for the day. She would love to send 1,000 children in 2014!
She also supports the George Thomas Hospice as her current Charity of the Year and offers them regular support, including a recent afternoon’s recital at De Courcey’s Manor on their behalf, which sold out in record time.
Glenda is a much sought after harp teacher with a waiting list for her coveted lessons. She has hosted highly successful harp workshops and master-classes at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama and the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff for a number of years and in 2013 hosted harp workshops at the International Eisteddfod in Llangollen, North Wales.
In 2014 Glenda will be leading harp workshops for students from Hong Kong who will attend her Summer Harp School at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff.
Glenda plays one of the most beautiful hand-decorated harps in the world. The Salvi Minerva Concert Grand is the signature harp of the Italian ‘Salvi Harp Company’. It is decorated in 23-carat gold leaf with a walnut finish and is a stunning example of true Italian craftsmanship.
Glenda lives in a small village on the outskirts of Cardiff. She has three children and two young grandchildren and when not playing the harp, loves to spend as much time with them as she can.
